swathdriver - I did not intend to argue about this with you, but this is unfortunately the mentality that has gotten our IFB churches to where they are today. The Holy Spirit would never lead any Christian to a church where there is no preaching,. The vast majority of Christians are not being led by the Holy Spirit, they are being led by their emotions and entertainment value. They go to a church and leave happy so that must mean the Holy Spirit is leading them there. Christians should go to church to be edified, reproved and rebuked by the Word of God. If the Word of God is not preached, all you did was get entertained.
My gifts and influence will not change the ways of a "yeller or story teller". I will not refer to them as preachers as they do not "Preach".
People need to hold the Pastor to a Biblical level and mandate that he "Preaches". It's a sad state of America that we are missing this in our churches.

You will find it here.  http://www.amuse-your-bouche.com/?s=crisp+bakes
Maybe mine collapsed because I steamed the potatoes rather than boiled them, but I think I may add some oats next time to make it less moist.  Some potatoes seem to absorb more moisture than others.  We once did mashed potatoes at church and it came out very soft. Our chef friend says he always keeps some instant mash  to add  if it is too soft.
They also have a couple of bean bakes, which I intend to try.
I had sardines with salad and chips this evening.

Well, it's breakfast instead of supper but: gallo pinto, fried plantain, scrambled eggs with onion and pablanos, curds.
We're headed for San Ramon to investigate another area of a potential base for ministry and to visit our host's sister's coffee and dairy farm.

Last night we had our traditional New Year's Day supper - Lasagna. It was the first time in 4 years that our son was able to join us.
Tonight we'll be having homemade enchiladas.

We had a really good couple of weeks. Sadly, my son leaves tomorrow. He will be heading over to the Seattle side for the night, and my brother will take him to the airport. If you think about it, I'd appreciate prayer for safe travels.  He is currently playing Risk with my hubs and our nephew, and we're about to have our last supper with him until May. We are so excited about his moving up here.

My wife and the family we're staying with are teaching each other different things in the kitchen. They have taught her how to make gallo pinto, she taught true Southern fried chicken. She's learning how to make tortillas from scratch, Monday she will teach them to make biscuits from scratch.
This is a VERY Catholic family, please pray we have an open door for effective witness in spite of the language difficulty.

Already enough people in the world who class Jesus Christ and God as "Fairly tales like Santa and the Easter bunny".
Our kids were always taught that Santa was not real - but they were also taught not to offend other kids who were lied to. It is not their job to correct that misteaching.

I find this interesting, especially in North Carolina (Virginia native here). However, imagine our surprise to find a real, bible-preaching, bible-believing, soulwinning church in "sin city" of all places. My husband and I left the "hippy-skippy" feel-good, NIV (among others) using "megachurch". The Lord led my husband to think about where we attend church right at a year ago now. A year ago, we were still pretty lost, not connected to a community, spiritually comatose. One year later, we are connected, spiritually alive, my husband is saved. Don't ever doubt what God can do...ever! If someone had told me this would happen, I'd have told them they were clear out of their minds.

We went to our service yesterday, we had 60 or more at the service compared with our usual Sunday service of 22-30.  Many were those we see only once a year, but one man who goes to our lunch club has told me for years that he would like to come to our church but works at the cricket club on Sundays,  He came for the first time two Sundays ago for our Carol service and again last Sunday and again yesterday.  Another of our lunch club attenders came for the first time and brought her daughter and son in law who were visiting her.
We went over to our daughter immediately after the service.  They had beef and all sorts of vegetables,  with an apple flan which they brought back from a visit to France on Friday.

I can just see her trotting round Tesco with her trolley [en] cart [us] [caddie or chariot [fr]  I don't know what they call it in oz.
The only well known person I have met in Tesco was about  years 30 or so years ago when I was at the fish counter on Christmas eve.  I was buying a salmon and waiting for it to be filleted and a voice behind me said "How much are you paying for that salmon"  I thought  "I know that voice!"      I told him and he bought a mackerel.   It was Bob Geldof.   Perhaps he couldn't afford a salmon.

Our preacher last Sunday chose "There was no room at Bethlehem" but our pianist didn't manage it too well, our reserve pianist was feeding her Baby at the time, The preacher said he didn't know it, but chose it because he liked the words. No one else seemed to know it, although I am sure we sang it last year or the year before. So we ended up reading the words.  One verse says "But there was room at Calvary"
There Was No Room in Bethlehem
There was no room in Bethlehem for him who left his throne to seek the lost at countless cost and make their griefs his own: but there was room at Calvary upon a cross of shame for him to die, uplifted high, and bear the sinner's blame. There was no room in Bethlehem, and in the world today man will not give him room to live but bids him turn away; but there is room at Calvary, and there he stands to give a home to all who heed his call and look to him and live. There was no room in Bethlehem for Christ, the Prince of heaven come down to earth in human birth that man might be forgiven: but there is room at Calvary for sinners to abide, and all who come will find a home in Jesus crucified.

It is our hope that your son will visit during the Christmas season you and that maybe even more than 25 people are in attendance on Christmas Sunday.
May the Lord give your husband the power from on High to preach the message of the birth of Christ.

Merry Christmas to everyone from the DePriest household. We are excited as we have our first Christmas service with my hubs as pastor - we are praying for 25 in attendance. And we are having a party on Saturday. And we are suspicious that our son is going to surprise us with a visit.
May God bless each of you in the coming new year as well.
