HappyChristian reacted to Pastorj in Have you heard this statement?
When my family traveled working with small churches, I came across this a few times. The one that was amazing to me was in Florida. I went out with an individual and it was my turn to talk. I started up a nice conversation with this lady on her doorstep. She was very willing to talk. After presenting the Gospel, I asked her if she had ever heard that before. She told me that she had, but didn't believe it. After some more discussion, my partner asked her if he could pray with her. To my amazement, he led her in the sinners prayer. After he was done, I stopped him and told her that she was not saved, but she could be if she would pray something similar believing. I then took my partner back to the church. On the way back, he was livid that we were stopping soul-winning and that I told her she wasn't saved after he "Led her to Christ".
It was not a fun conversation, but I spent a good hour explaining to him that a prayer doesn't save. After we were done, the pastor showed up and he had a conversation with the Pastor. He reinforced what I had told him and it finally clicked with him. He was zealous to lead people to the Lord, but at been taught wrong.

It rarely snows in our neck of the woods (well, in the mountains it does, but we are thousands of feet below...). In the two winters we've been here, we've only had a couple of dustings. And that's usually closer to Christmas and/or in January.
But this past Saturday we got an early surprise.  At our house we got about an inch - not much by some standards, I know, but it's a big deal in an area that, as I said, rarely gets snow - and never this early.
This picture was taken by someone in town. I'm not overly fond of snow, but I do love snowy scenes.

I would agree - no frozen pot pie comes close to homemade! We are planning a "pie social" for our December potluck at church. We'll have both savory and sweet pies (and likely pizza pie). I'm planning on making at least a chicken pot pie, possibly beef. And I'm already tasting it.

Probably no one does home made pot pies any more. But every time I think of pot pies I remember my mother making them from scratch.
I don't remember the recipe, but can still remember the delicious aroma that wafted through the house when she made these.
She used a big green Fiesta bowl; the kind that are antiques any more. She made wonderful pie crust and would make a huge one for the pot pie.
There was a coffee mug placed in the bottom of the bowl to support the huge pie crust, so it didn't sink into the liquid and become soggy.
Lots of chicken cooked to perfection, along with veggies like potatoes, carrots, onion, celery. And all of the seethed in a wonderful chicken gravy. She then  cooked it in the oven until the pie crust turned a light brown color.
I sure wish I had her recipe, I miss it. Sorry to be off topic because this is not what I had for dinner last night, but HC, your post got me to thinking about home made pot pies, there is no substitute.

I'm sorry...I don't have a pictures. I live in a impoverished city where there is not much beauty to take pictures of as the ones above me. But I can speak on the Beauty of Creation, who's architect of the of New Jerusalem is God Himself. A city that is untouched by the curse of a fallen creation, which is why it exists in the 3rd heaven, because the first and the second heavens have been tainted. Yet beauty can still be found in it.   We all know that the new heavens and the new earth is going to be astounding because there is no more curse. Even though we live in a fallen world, God's creative handiwork in the beauty of creation can still be seen and cherished. In the New Jerusalem, the bible describes the streets as made of pure gold as "transparent" glass. It is unlike any gold found here on earth. The reason why it is transparent is so the Glory of God can radiate through it. Just as the clearer a diamond is, the more expensive it costs. I believe the New Jerusalem will appear like one gigantic transparent diamond in it purest form so God's amazing Glory can shine through it and light the entire infinite universe.    And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. (Revelation 12:12)   There is also the Tree of Life that produces 12 variations of fruits. Now this is just ONE tree.   In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. (Revelation 22:2)   The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations...Since we will have glorified bodies, why the "healing"? The Greek word for healing is "therapeuo", which where we get the word therapy. A cool breeze of wind is therapeutic. A vitamin is therapeutic, but we don't really need it to survive, but it enhances life. The leaves will enhance our lives even with our celestial bodies.   Even the water of life is transparent so the Glory of God can radiate through it:   And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. (Revelation 22:1)   The twelve manner of fruits represents variety in the New Jerusalem, we're not going to be just playing harps for all of eternity and floating on clouds. We will serving God...the possibilities are endless, especially when there is a new Universe. And the gates are never closed, indicating that we can enter in and out to wherever we have to go to serve The Lord God Almighty. What's also beautiful are the gates, they are not "pearly" gates, but they are A pearl -- one giant pearl. How beautiful!   And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. (Revelation 21:21)   Pearls are formed when the oyster is (I can use the word pierced) or injured. And it's interesting how our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was pierced and died for our sins, and the result is Eternal Life and a New beautiful creation that is yet to behold.   God Bless, Daniel

    Sounds interesting.
My eldest daughter hired a field for a camping weekend for her wedding, and had a bring and share meal.  One brought a potato salad with hard boiled eggs on top.  He arrived late and most of the people had eaten enough.  He was very disappointed that very little was eaten.  I had some and it was very nice.
It was a strange wedding, they cycled from Sutton to Paddington with my daughter in her wedding dress,  then caught a train to within 15 miles of the camping field and cycled from there.

I like Domino's, too. We'll get that once in a while. I call it in and hubs picks it up. I love their thin crust pepperoni with green peppers, black olives, and onions.  Of course, adding those toppings is expensive, so we rarely do it.
I baked two of the pizzas for tomorrow tonight (and had to sample to make sure it was ok...that was my dinner  ). Tomorrow after church we'll put the others in the oven to bake and folks can nosh on what's already done while they wait. Papa Murphy's has a new one - bacon cheeseburger. I'm looking forward to trying that one.

I'm not crazy about it, but my hubs likes it. Although it is pricey - or, at least, it was when we last bought it (in Indiana). We have some friends (the man's name is John) who really, really like it.
We prefer Papa Murphy's. We don't get it very often, but we like the Cowboy pizza. I don't care for sausage and mushroom, so we ask them to add extra pepperoni and another veggie. They do and don't charge for it, so that's nice.
This Sunday is "October Surprise" at church. Hubs told everyone to come hungry, but didn't tell them why.  We are buying several pizzas and will bring salad, perhaps some chips. I think they'll enjoy themselves.
Tonight we had homemade beef/veggie soup.
