Personally, I think we have to be real careful about giving "Assurance" to people. I don't really believe it is our job to give "assurance", Our job is to make sure they understand the Gospel clearly. I think when people really understand the Gospel and understand that they are saved by faith in the Gospel, then there will not be as many problems with assurance of salvation. The problem comes in my opinion from people emphasizing things like "asking Jesus into your heart" "Receiving Jesus as your Lord and Savior" or "Repent of all your sins" etc, I think we need to emphasis the Gospel and what it means to believe the Gospel and trust in Christ.
P.S. I in no way am saying repentance is not a part of salvation, however the way some people present repentance almost seems like a work.

    Hi all,
Thank you for all who have prayed for me and given to help me get to Uganda this past summer. I would like to ask you all to pray for me that God would give wisdom, I am praying about going to Baptist Bible Translators Insitute in August, however finances are a problem right now.
Basically their program is 9 months and you pay 200 a month to live in a house, only problem is that due to the nature of the program, you cannot work. So I have to have the money before going, also I have a loan payment that is about 160 a month, so I would need money for that as well, plus money for food.
Basically I would really like to go and do this, and eventually go to Uganda, Will you please pray that if this is God's will that he would provide the funds? Also just please ask God to confirm his will for my life over the next few months and to lead me.
    Thank you all.

Baptist Board is infested with a bunch of backsliders, heretics, and apostates. So much calvinism over on that site, I’ve clashed with people on that site on just about everything from music to KJO, to dispenationalism... pretty much any solid bible teaching will be argued with over on that site.

I use to love and prefer only fire and brimstone preaching... However I think sometimes it's really easy for us to hear fire and brimstone preaching and that it's easy to say amen to. However I think encouragement and admonition is just as important. I also grow tired of preaching who get up and preach about all the sins except for the ones that their people are guilty about. It's really easy to preach against sins like sodomy, and abortion, because hardly anyone in our churches does those... I wish more preachers would preach on modesty and dress (and I mean actually talk about it instead of referring to it in vague generalities), the evils of public school system, worldly carnal entertainment, gossip, bitterness, etc.
I am all for preaching about hell and telling sinners to repent.. but I just think preachers really need to get down to where their peoples needs are and as God leads them to deliver God's message to them. I am not particularly fond of dry expositions, or shallow messages either.. I guess It is hard to explain..So much preaching is shallow in it's exposition of the scriptures, and so many times I feel like there are topics that should be preached on, and they are avoided or when they are touched on its so shallow as to even have an effect.
I think what we need today is true spirit filled men, who are sensitive to the heart of God, preaching and proclaiming God's message at God's timing.

Church Bible Publishers and Local Church Bible Publishers (These are two different entities) are both great producers of bibles, they are ministries and their goal is producing high quality bible at cost of production. I am honestly do not like the KJV store, the KJV store purchase bibles from LCBP and CBP and then marks them up and sells them, it seems like all the KJV store does is buy bibles from other retailers and then make them up 30-40 dollars. Do NOT buy from the KJV store.

Not sure how you can make the statement that most of the notes are based on Westcott and Hort?
    1. Most of the study material in the Thompson is simply just topics and cross references, there is hardly any traditional study bible type notes.
    2. Occasionally they include an alternate readings for words in the margins from the Revised Version these are not very common though, I just ignore those however.
I am more concerned with the way the Thompson handles Revelation, because the Thompson interprets it as history and not prophecy. But again I read everything with a discerning eye, I like the Thompson because of it's chain reference system that allows me to really dig into topics in the bible. I use the Thompson and ignore it just like I use Matthew Henry's commentaries and ignore his teachings on baptism, calvinism, and prophecy, or how I use Scofield but ignore his teaching son the Gap theory, or how I read Oliver B Greene but ignore how he sometimes corrects the KJV readings, or how read John Gills Commentaries and ignore his Calvinism... I don't even agree with everything my Pastor teaches or says!
The Thompson is a great study bible for those who desire to be serious students of the bible, but just like anything else it must be used with discernment.

long story short, most bibles will include little letters or symbols in the text above the words, and then you look in the margin and it will reference you to similar passages and such.
The Thompson however has marginal columns on both sides of the text, and by each verse it has different topics or themes with a number next to the topic. every topic has a number, and in the back there is a list of topics with verse that belong to that topic. In the margins of the text, the margin will give you the next reference in the chain of that particular topic, and you can go through the entire bible looking at the different verses in the topic. It might sounds complicated, but honestly if you look at a Thompson for 5 minutes you will pretty much figure out how it works. the first time I glanced at one I couldn't figure it out, but that was only because I was use to other kinds of reference bibles. Rather than just having notes at the bottom to tell you what to think about a particular passage, the Thompson gives suggestions for different topics contained in a particular verse and will lead you to references pertaining to those topics. It is a great bible for those who actually want to study God's word, and also great for searching out particular thoughts you have as you are reading the bible devotionally.

I agree with you. Your concern is commendable.
If I was in such a church I would approach the pastor, privately, and, with a lot of humility, tell him my concerns. Depending on what he said, what he is going to do about it, and his attitude towards my concern, would determine my next move.
After a season of prayer, and if possible godly counsel from a fellow saint that you felt was walking with the Lord, and the situation was not improving, it may be advisable to search out a solid independent, fundamental Baptist Church.
May the Lord bless you and guide you as you spend time in prayer and counsel in this matter. Keep us informed (or by personal messenger).

    1. THEY said they cast out devils, not God, so that doesn't mean they actually did.
    2. Is it really out of the realm of possibility that demonic spirits could give the appearance of being cast out to deceive the one who "cast" them out? To me it would be entirely within the character of demonic spirits to deceive someone in that way... I mean after all.. look at the passage... because these people "cast out devils" they have a false sense of spiritual security.

Thanks to those who prayed for me, and gave to me to go to Uganda last summer. For those who saw my video update, I mentioned a man named Fanuel, I had gotten to go and share the Gospel with him at his hut and he got saved, then proceeded to come to our meetings that same evening and gave a public testimony of salvation:
Here is a picture of him from the day he got saved in summer of 2016. Then I received another picture from my friend over in Uganda of this second picture, which was him at the Church today, one year later, attending soul winning training! Praise God

Why is that we fundamentalists reject CCM because it uses the Rock and Roll beat, yet we embrace Southern Gospel and other styles that use the same exact Piano Rhythms that were used in Ragtime, Swing and other early genres from the early 1900s.

Do a study on the history of the musical genres of Ragtime, Blues, Honkey Tonk, and Boogie Woogie.

I really am tired of this hypocrisy, you either must accept all genres as being valid, or you must reject all these other genres that borrow the worlds bar scene rhythms.

does 50 years passing by somehow make these genres and styles that were used to promote filth somehow make these now sanctified?

after studying and praying about music I've come to the conclusion that it's the rhythm of all these genres that connects them to immorality.

Our young people and others are going to see through this hypocrisy and this is going to cause us to lose any right we have to preach against CCM.

You cannot preach against CCM and yet embrace Southern Gospel without being a hypocrite, and don't think just because the Southern Gospel you listen to doesn't have a drum beat and your ok, Even most of the Southern Gospel songs that don't have drums in them at all still have Ragtime Piano Rhythm.
