It seems the two elder women met the owners of the house, and when they had shared political beliefs.  They joined a political collective and when it disbanded they stayed on.  The police say they suffered physical abuse and while they had a certain amount of freedom, they were held by 'invisible handcuffs' .  The younger woman seemed to be born in the house and has a birth certificate.

Sounds like Commies to me, not surprising at all as humans lives are worth little more than a cockroach to them.

A married couple suspected of holding three women as slaves for more than 30 years are former Maoist activists Aravindan Balakrishnan and his wife Chanda, the BBC understands.

According to Marxist archives they were leading figures at the Mao Zedong Memorial Centre based in Acre Lane, Brixton, south London, in the 1970s.

It was raided by police and five people, including the pair, were held.

Mr Balakrishnan, 73, and his 67-year-old wife were arrested on Thursday.

How can a 73 and 67 year old hold you hostage with "invisible handcuffs"? Sounds like it was a commie hippy commune gone bad.

By mental abuse, I suppose.  There was an interview on TV today of a neighbour who said the 30 year old handed him a note asking for help which said she was in danger if it she was found out.
