#364868 What Color Is Your Church?

Posted by BroMatt on 10 March 2014 - 09:25 AM

Our church building is blue and white. Not a typical church building. It was a racquetball center before it was given to us. Kind of unique as we have a few racquetball courts in the church.

#364842 Why I Am Leaving The Church Growth Movement

Who are these pastors from which camps? Are they Lutheran? Presbyterian? Catholic? Are they Reformed? or are they Fundamentalists?

They have ranged from Catholic Priests to Fundamentalists.

I answered it, I'm sorry it wasn't the answer you were looking for

My apologies, the answer I was looking for was for your explanation of Scripture, not just posting a reference. Seeing how we interpret verses differently, I thought it would only make sense for your explanation of them.

I don't know you, I gave my answer again. I based my answer on what I said earlier, remember?

Again, the answer I was looking for was for your explanation of Scripture.

Sure, as long as you don't guilt them into a decision based on a '"1-2-3 repeat this prayer after me". You see salvation is more than that....Eph 1:4-8 Jn 11:25-26 ; Phil 1:6

What do you know about me that would imply that I would do that? I preach against 1-2-3 prayers all the time, and I'm not sure why you are stereotyping IFB's.

At my church, we don't go "soulwinning". we see it as our entire lives we are out on visitation, whether home, in the neighborhood, at work, at kids soccer games

We do that too, but we also set up a time to go out to reach those we normally would never come in contact while  out.

I do not understand your response to another question. My question was "One more thing. Can you show me where I have a standards and morality based Gospel? Since you know so much about what I believe, I'm hoping to understand myself a little better". Your answer was "I don't know you, I gave my answer again. I based my answer on what I said earlier, remember?" Can you point me to your answer? I just mentioned how you know I have a standards and mortality based Gospel. You would have to know me to make that assumption and you stated you do not know me. I'm confused on your answer and I'm hoping you can shed some light on it for me. Thank you.

#364737 Lord's Day 3/9/14

Posted by BroMatt on 08 March 2014 - 09:30 AM

Not sure if I will be on OB for the rest of today so everyone have a great day in the Lord's house tomorrow. Don't forget to give the Lord the whole day.

Also, after Sunday Morning service, let us know what your pastor (or you) preached on. I'll try to remember to post it here as well.

I have also noticed that you purposely did not answer James questions, which would lead me to believe that you do not have answers. Is that True? Is so, we would love to help you.

Thanks, but no thanks. I had my fill of standards and morality based gospel. I am quite content now with the grace of Jesus, thank you

Sorry to hear that.

I love to learn more (that is why I'm on here), and that is why I talk to pastors and laymen of different camps all the time. I do it to gain more insight and grow closer to the Lord. I want to encourage you to use Scripture and explain it. Many false teachings are out there because someone is taking a verse out of context, or does not understand the meaning a certain verse.

It is your choice not to answer James questions, but if you have the "truth" from Scripture why not share it with us?

One more thing. Can you show me where I have a standards and morality based Gospel? Since you know so much about what I believe, I'm hoping to understand myself a little better. :)

I'm off to go  soul-winning. Can you pray with me for souls to be saved and lives turned back to God? I would appreciate it. Thank you.

#364543 Pastors That Are Playing Too Much Golf...

Posted by BroMatt on 06 March 2014 - 02:57 PM

Some would argue that one does not have their own time. If every minute is not directly dedicated to "christian" things then you are out of the will of God.

Members have family and needs too.

Rom 10:14  ".....and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? Are we to believe that all Christians are preachers?

If so, then we need to stop the misuse of the word/title.

By "their own time" I'm talking about non church type actives like sleeping and eating. If I was going to fulfill the great commission 100% of the time I would never sleep, and I would be on visitation with a slice of pizza in my hand stuffing my mouth while talking with my mouth full. Kinda silly for those who think one does not have their own time. Don't confuse own time with wasted time.

Funny, he mentions manipulation: that's where the IFB leads the league, If you don't feel guilty, you haven't been preached to!!

Thanks for giving us the title of "leading the league".  I have also noticed that you purposely did not answer James questions, which would lead me to believe that you do not have answers. Is that True? Is so, we would love to help you.

#364429 Pastors That Are Playing Too Much Golf...

Posted by BroMatt on 06 March 2014 - 09:43 AM

With the long winters, and yes we go soulwinning in the winter time, I am looking forward to a few rounds of golf. With that being said, it is always done on my own time. Preachers have family and needs too. The great commission is to all Christians, not just your pastor. He just might say, "Church Members That Are on Online Baptist Too Much...Are they wasting precious time. Should they be winning lost souls instead. How much Online Baptist is to much Online Baptist?" :)

Actually, I don't know any "religious group" that doesn't bicker...or start arguments with those with whom they don't agree.

Except here. We don't do that here. :)

#363730 Looking For Opinions On Viewing Christian Movies At The Theatre

Posted by BroMatt on 28 February 2014 - 11:38 AM

The Lord leads each Pastor differently. By joining my church I agreed to abide by the rules. I do know some rules that we have are not "Biblical rules" per se, but that is a rule that the Pastor feels the Lord leading him. Does not mean it is right or wrong for other churches to have the same rules, but if I purposely disobey them, then that would be wrong by me. If my Pastor did not want me to go to the movies because he would feel that it would be a stumbling block to other members, then I would not step foot in a movie theater.

#360420 Looking For Opinions On Viewing Christian Movies At The Theatre

This is more of a personal conviction rather than a Biblical conviction. If one will say that entering a Movie Theater is a "sin" because of appearance, then one can't rent movies or have cable TV.

I have other battles I would rather fight with the devil than that of going to a movie theater. If someone is watching an inappropriate movie, then that's a different story.

#358682 Just Want To Publicly Thank God

Posted by BroMatt on 25 January 2014 - 01:39 PM

This week a long time family friend passed away, Gary Peirpont aka Pastor Gary. Pastor Gary was a close friend to my father. They grew up together in the same town, they went to the same high school, they went to Bible College together, and after Bible college, Pastor Gary became my dads assistant pastor for around 13 years. Pastor Gary helped start Faith Baptist Academy and was also the principle of the school. As a child, I remember Pastor Gary over our house many times for Thanksgiving meals, and he also was my teacher at Faith Baptist Academy, and later, Central Christian Academy. That was all around 24 years ago.

Pastor Gary unexpected passed away on Jan 20, 2014. Just about all of his student has lost touch with him in the last 24 or so years. At the funeral last night, a bunch of us students from 24 years ago was able to reunite again. The impact that Pastor Gary has on our lives was incredible. He was a man of God and character. Even those students who went off their own ways all these years still have the utter most respect for Pastor Gary.

Here is the blessing. Seeing how the family has no money to pay for the funeral, I set up an Online Fundraiser to help his wife with the costs of the funeral. I figured most of us had lost contact for 24 years so I set the goal at $2.500.00 thinking it will never be met. Praise the Lord in less than 24 hours we hit the goal. I just keep thinking, "O ye of little Faith". 24 years later, his students still remember the love that he showed them.
