#322626 A Teen's Salvation!

Posted by SarahStrawberry on 12 March 2013 - 07:58 PM

We had a teen girl get saved this past Sunday morning!!!! Last Summer our youth group really exploded and we've had a bunch of new teens coming pretty faithfully. But just in the last month or so it feels like we've kinda hit our first slump and I've been doing more praying than every individually for each teen and for the group as a whole. Last week I started praying even more specifically for our teens so it was really exciting and encouraging to see the salvation of this particular girl. She said she'd been wanting to for months! You just never know how the Lord is working in hearts. It's so wonderful to see Him moving. :-)

Praise the Lord!

#322308 Are You A Good Tipper?

Posted by SarahStrawberry on 08 March 2013 - 03:39 PM

My mom worked in the food industry for years before I was born, my dad delivered pizzas for the majority of my childhood, and now my sister works as a waitress. Growing up we were taught the respect of a tip. I still remembering my siblings and I (five of us) jumping dad every night as soon as he got home to find out how much he made in tips. And I remember the stories he'd tell about how it wasn't the rich side of town that he usually got his good tips from but the poor side of town. In fact, he was more likely to not get any tip from the rich side of town.

Real quick, I will note that I will lessen my tip according to the service. But if they even just did their job (no bad attitude etc) then I'll give the 15%.

No one has the right to say, "find a different job if you can't live on 2.95 an hour" people work the jobs they can find to support their family. And if you can afford to eat at such an establishment then you can afford to tip at such an establishment. I have been known to take up the slack if someone who I am with doesn't tip their "share" because I refuse to leave a table with less than 15% or I won't go out to eat. They earned their paycheck just like I do. And if you're going to use the "we only give God 10% so why should we tip more than that" argument then maybe you should be giving God more. 10% is only the required amount, try giving an offering on top of that.

And yes, it is a bad testimony.

*gets off soapbox*   :th_tiphat:

Joel! The big 18! And yes, it does. :-P So did you graduate this year??
And Sarah, I do too! lol And I'm on my way to message you right now! ;-)

Wow. I haven't typed 1990anything in a long time. That looks weird! lol

But to the topic at hand. :-)

My dad was saved the year I was born though he didn't do a whole lot of growing for years, often not even coming to church with us. And though my mom didn't get saved until I was 13 I was still raised in a "Christian" home per se. We went to church faithfully, were even involved in some activities. So I did the Christian kid "thing" and made a profession of faith when I was 5 or 6. I vaguely remember it but mostly just as an interesting story. lol As I grew up and hit my preteens I was anything but secure about my Salvation though I didn't really think about it as something I needed to sit down and take care of once and for all. lol Instead, I would just say the prayer "just in case" at the end of children's church and things like that. When I was 11 we moved across the country and my Spiritual state continued in the same pattern. All of this time though our family was falling apart at the seems, especially the seem called "Mom". I won't go into details this time but after years and years of pain and trying to "do it right" ... and failing, my mom tried a one last ditch effort by going down to a counseling place in AZ. It was the first day she was there that she realized that she wasn't saved. And got saved. :-D (may I insert here that that day the Lord saved our family. It's only by His grace that we are still intact. Not only intact, but all of us but one are serving the Lord and living the sold out life, growing closer to Him every day. To God be the glory!!!) I was 13 at the time and had begun to feel really nervous about the whole Salvation thing. It was time to figure it out for sure. Being new to the teen class I had recently started going on church visitation. Well one night when my aunt and uncle (also my Pastor and his wife) were over for my brother's birthday I saw my opportunity. I asked my aunt just exactly how you went about leading someone to the Lord. Sneaky, right? lol So she led me through the Romans road and then, at the prompting of the Holy Spirit, she looked at me and said, "Do you want to do this, Sarah?" The dam burst and I said yes. :-) Right there in my living room, not caring who was there, I repented of my sins and asked God to become my Lord and Savior. :-) Best day of my life. :-)
