Ephesians 2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
the nature of things, the force, laws, order of nature
as opposed to what is monstrous, abnormal, perverse
as opposed what has been produced by the art of man: the natural branches, i.e. branches by the operation of nature
birth, physical origin
a mode of feeling and acting which by long habit has become nature
the sum of innate properties and powers by which one person differs from others, distinctive native peculiarities, natural characteristics: the natural strength, ferocity, and intractability of beasts
Obviously, the definition that best fits "nature" in Ephesians 2:3 is "birth, physical origin."
Children sin because it is in their nature to do so. Man sins because it is in his nature to do so.
Paul struggled often with the sin nature in his own body. Raed Romans 7.
Sorry, Winman, your "strawman" argument just does not hold up under the weight of God's Holy Word.
Ephesians 2:14-15 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
Both are one in Christ. The Gentiles were grafted into the vine. No such thing as a Church of the Jews and Church of the Gentiles. Christ has ONE BODY, not two. The Church that existed before Acts 10 did not remain a separate Church from the Gentiles.... it was one universal Body.
There is only ONE Body of Christ that is made up of many members. That ONE Body is identified in the Word of God as the CHURCH. Christ only has one Body.
That said, there are also buildings called Churches in the Bible.
In Revelation, we see Jesus speaking to the angel that was sent to the Church at Sardis, to the angel at the Church at Ephesus, and to five ofther Churches in other geographical locations.
I believe those Churches in Revelation to be places of worship where members of the ONE CHURCH, the Body of Christ met. Individually, we are not separate Churches. Rather, we are all members of ONE Body, ONE CHURCH, of which every joint supplieth.
The truly sad thing is, once someone has received a false gospel and conversion, and received a false Jesus, they aremoften taught about the terrible fundamentalists who think the Bible is something to be followed literally, and once they embrace them, its almost impossible to reach them-they have their proof texts and they will fight your 'phariseeism' tooth and nail. Once you remove their reliance upon scripture, you now have no set boundaries upon which to stand.
I have been dealing with a young lady who used to attend my church-it was years back as a teen. She ended up in foster care with a more modern Christian family out of our influence and has been immersed in pentecostalism. She speaks in tongues, has apparently no problem with the 'holy laughter' and spirit drunkeness, slaying in the spirit, and so forth. She has been taught that we can't 'box in' God, that he is so awesome he can do as He pleases and we have no right to judge it. And of course, with this mindset, she rejects anything I tell her about scriptuiral testing and trying and judging. Its very sad. When I tpoke against the laughter thing, she accused me of promoting a sad, depressing Christianity, where we should walk arounf bummed out all the time. "No wonder', she said, "that people don't want to be Christians when we expect them to be sad all the time!". No discernment at all concerning what I was talking about. Yet to her, she has excellent discernment. Such she has been taught. I am praying for her to 'get it', we shall see. her name is Destinee, if anyone wants to pray for her, as well.
How to reveal the spirit behind the slaying in that young lady.
Offer to attend a service she goes to. Stay behind her. Or, if you see someone else who looks like they might be "slain", step behind that person. As the person starts to fall backward, just move out of the way. Don't catch him/her. Let that person fall.
If it truly is the Spirit of God, who are we to hinder it? If it wants to knock someone on his/her back, let Him.
If it's not the Spirit, the true spirit behind the "slaying" will manifest itself in short order.
