Religious Acts
Jesus healed on a Sunday! NO WAY! Today as I was reading John chapter five a question swept through my head nagging me to answer it. A question I had never really thought of. I read verse fifteen and then went on to verse sixteen because it is always pratical to go to the next verse but anyways I noticed that although Jesus healed the lame man by the pool of Bethesda, the Jews persecuted him because Jesus healed the man on the Sabbath. I asked myself the question, would I have done the same? Would I have been full of religious junk and persecuted my Lord?

This brought me to the thought of what it means to have a relationship rather then just religion. It means we need to get rid of our religious baggage and start living a life with a relationship. Instead of making Christianity all about religion make it all about a relationship. This doesn't mean we have the right to do whatever we well please. We are still to imitate Jesus. When we read our Bible and get the full context of its meaning and are reading it to be transformed, our lifes will begin to imitate Christs. We will start getting rid of our religious baggage that we tote around. On top of all this we will start having a Biblical worldview and understand the doctrines of our faith. My challenge is for everyone to search the Scriptures not just to be informed but to be transformed as Woodrow Kroll said.

When reading your Bible do not come with your preunderstandings and presuppositions. Leave these behind and interpret Scripture the way it was meant. This means we are to read more than one verse at a time. Read a chapter before and after the chapter you are reading to get the complete context. Think about what this passage meant to those it was written too. Look for clues in the words as to what the author is getting at. If you do these things then you can apply Scripture properly to your life and get a full understanding of doctrine.
