My first collision...
That's right, I was taking a corner in the inside lane with a girl about the same age as myself taking the corner on the outside. Being the tight curve that it was, she cut the corner and not having time to respond, nor the room to move, I t-boned her. Unfortunately, I was also uninsured. But then again, so was she so it's not a big deal. But it's alright, no harm done. The vehicles were undamaged and nobody was hurt, except maybe a bit of a jolt. You see, I was driving a Hornet, more generically known as a go-cart. But these weren't your standard go-carts, these were the fastest in the park...by a lot.
Since my sister and mom are out of town, my dad and I went up to Hanover, PA to Speedway 94. We did two tracks up there. The first was fun and we enjoyed ourselves. The second one was amazing. Even my dad made the comment afterwards that it was intense. That says something for my dad who did drag racing and likes to drive sports cars.
The cars were fast, handled incredibly, and stopped on a dime. The course was great too. There were about 10 cars on this course, there were a few not-so-sharp curves and two curves that were unmerciful right after one another. It took me a while(and several wipe-outs) to realize that my brakes were there for a reason; to skid more slowly into the turn than to spin into a turn and try to recover, or get stuck against the wall, as happened to me once.
The collision occurred on the second of those two sharp turns. I was speeding along the track and took the curve from the inside while the girl took it from the outside. Being a tough turn to maneuver, I couldn't quite hug the turn and she was cutting it close from the outside. The road between us very quickly disappeared and I slammed into the side of her. We both came to a complete stop(not a good thing to do when there are 8 other cars flying around the same track). I had hit her so hard that her sunglasses had flown off her face. She kind of sat there for a moment just staring straight ahead at me, since I was now facing her, as if she was stunned. I think I was for a moment as well. I recovered quickly enough, though, that I knew I had to start moving or there would be a multi-car pileup. I waved at her and mouthed "sorry" and pulled back onto the track. I saw her a few turns later with her sunglasses back on so I guess she was able to get them off the track before they were run over.
Wow, I've gotta do that again. Fun, fun.
