Let me give you a tiny history about Online Baptist. Online Baptist started back in Jan. 2002 as a directory to list Independent Baptist websites. Soon after a message board (yes-i-believe.com) asked if Online Baptist would take over the message boards. The forums quickly grew till what we now have today. While Online Baptist has gone through periods of up and downs, we still have a strong core membership. Online Baptist is what it is because of you the members. I thank each one of you for that.
Now on to the important stuff. I've put off expanding Online Baptist for too long. I've always had goals of making Online Baptist feature rich for our great members, and I believe that now is a good time for me to tackle this.
What I have always dreamed Online Baptist to be is the following.
1) Great message board with the best members on the web. - Goal accomplished.
2) Great Baptist links directory I got about half of this accomplished.
3) Categorized Sermon and outlines for our members. - Not Done
4) Make Online Baptist have more of a social network feel. - Not Done
5) Photo gallery for our premier members.- Not Done
6) Much more.
Of course the message boards will always be the core of Online Baptist.
In the past I have coded some features myself, but the problem is that when I update the forum software it usually breaks something else. Getting a few 3rd party softwares and my mods to work together is not easy at times. That is why some features here come and go. Between preaching and my little technology business I do not have time to continually recoding all the software to play nice together.
So, I'm thinking about doing what I never said I would do, making the switch to vBulletin's Publishing Suite. Why? Well it will all be their software and when they upgrade, everything should play nice together. It will save me time in the long run and it will give us all the
I will add a poll to this to get your opinion.
Yes- I'm all for it and I think the new features will greatly benefit all our member No- Nah, leave it alone. We changing again? Huh? - Does not make a difference to me at all.[/color]
Some of you have already added yourself to the OB Usermap, I think it will be neat to see where our members are from. Link is in the top menu.
I do not recommend that you put your exact location down. In fact, I just put Connecticut (and no, not everyone from Ct is rich ) instead of my address.
Thank you all who participated in this contest, I do not know about everyone else but I had fun watching this thread tonight. I do not know how many posts where posted in the last minute but it was crazy, as I could not even keep track of all the posts being made.
The winning post by Kayla was here. Jerry# was just a few seconds early and 4everHis was just seconds too late.
Congratulations Kayla. I'll sending you a PM soon so you can collect your prize. For everyone else, HappyChristian is taking over the contest for Bakers. More contests will be coming soon.
Kayla wins an OB Mug, tea, and the coveted contest trophy.
After much time on the Online Baptist staff, Bakershalfdozen is stepping down from her position as mod. Jess has done a great job as a mod, but now she feels she no longer has the time to be a mod.
She still will be sticking around, so please help me in saying thank you to her.
Quote:We now have a new award called the Vocabulary Award. You can view the description and icon here. It is at the bottom of the list. Really, check it out.
To win this award, you must use a rare/unusual word:
1. In a sentence
2. In normal conversation here on OB (Just posting a cool word and the def. doesn't count.)
3. In the correct context and definition of the word
This award will move from person to person; whoever is recognized here (like we've been doing) will get the award. The next person to be recognized will then receive the award, etc.
I don't read every single post or thread so if you read a word that you feel is award-worthy, send me a PM or mention it here.
